The
Schaab Scholars were hard at work last week - rocking week two! We had to be a little bit flexible when we were having some technology glitches, and had to postpone our MAP testing. However, we completed both reading and math MAP tests at the end of the week. The students and I will be reviewing their data and will be setting some
SMART Goals based on their individual scores. We started talking about SMART goals on Friday, and will be practicing on each aspect of SMART this week during writing. We can't wait to share what we are working on with you and get your
feedback!

Last week we also began our
geography study, looking at what is geography is, continents, oceans, etc. We are creating a geography field book as we go through our unit as a way for the Scholars to show what they've learned. Hopefully you'll see the lap book sometime soon to see what we are up to! We will be studying Geography through September, before we move on to the Regions of the United States.

In Math last week we continued our study of Place Value. We had a quiz on Friday which everyone did awesome on. I know everyone tried their best, and could show me what they knew no problem. A few students were a little thrown off that we did not have a study guide for this assessment, however, we reviewed the material we had been studying the past two weeks, and they were rock stars. As a means of making sure students master content, if your child had any problems marked wrong, they will be bringing home a "Mistakes are opportunities to learn" worksheet. For each problem they missed, they will need to provide the correct answer, and explain what they did wrong in a sentence or two. When they hand this back in, they will be earning 1/2 point back on each question they then answer correctly. If there are still questions, they are free to come in and meet with me to go over the quiz and I can help them with the right answers.

In promoting the Growth Mindset and wanting students to learn from mistakes, the "Mistakes are opportunities to learn" page will be a staple in our classroom. I want to make sure everyone feels comfortable as a learner and can correct their mistakes. Please let me know if you have any questions about this!
Schaab Scholars also have been loving our STAND UP stations, especially in the afternoon. For people who want to be able to move or are just more kinesthetic, these are perfect in helping students focus. We have five of these in the classroom and they are growing in popularity.
Please make sure you've signed up for reminders on Remind (
click here) and I think almost everyone has connected with their child via Class Dojo. If your child does receive a negative Dojo point, I will do my best to notate why by the end of the day. Missing a homework assignment or forgetting your Chromebook does result in an automatic "unprepared" for class. Of course, we are trying to promote as much positive as possible, and will be setting a new class
We had an awesome week last week and I'm excited to see what awesomeness happens in Room 217 this week!
