Always Learning.... Always Growing!

We have been super busy in Room 217!   The Schaab Scholars did an amazing job with their Daily 5 Rotations while Mrs. Schaab read with students independently for running records.   It was essential for students to be independent as I listened to Scholars read and discuss what they had just read.   Hopefully, the parents of Scholars saw the reading level their child brought home, as well as a SMART goal related to improving their reading level.  Of course, when conferencing with each Scholar, we discuss the data from MAP, running records, and their feelings towards reading and what they would like help with.  We are excited to dive into the stories in Storytown, as well as various other resources.    The Schaab Scholars who have Mrs. Schaab for reading were also given a Raz Kids log in on Monday.   We are using RAZ Kids accounts from the 3rd graders - and are very appreciative that they are sharing!  We'll be using this resource to practice our fluency with books at our just right level.

Last week we also picked a topic for our first round of Passion Projects.  I'm looking forward to working on these with the research aspect at school and developing a project around something that they are very interested in.   We worked on categorizing our topics so that we know what other people are studying, as well as created some groups of people who may want to research together.

We are also excited about reading with our Book Buddies!   We are with some amazing first graders and it is awesome watching the Schaab Scholars take a leadership role with these young learners.   Last week for Constitution Day, the Book Buddies worked together on reading a mini book about the Constitution, and then did a small writing activity together.  The kids were ROCK STARS and were focused and engaged the entire time.

Another fun thing we did on Constitution Day was watched School House Rock!  Very much a classic favorite of mine. :)

We are getting super close to meeting our SMART Goal and enjoyed reflecting on what went well and what we needed to work on this week.   It's great having 23 minds working together on an action plan for us to improve together.    I appreciate all of the parental support on talking with your Scholar about their goals.  We will be setting goals together a lot in order to empower each student in Room 217.    Thank you for your continued support!  I hope you are having an amazing week!
